Scott Loveridge’s interests span community, environment, economic development, and agriculture. A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, he completed an undergraduate degree in biology, and served as a Peace Corps Fisheries Volunteer in Zaire. His master's thesis topic was on Michigan farmer cooperatives, and his PhD dissertation focused on food security for rural people in Rwanda. He previously served as a member of the faculty at the University of Minnesota, and at West Virginia University (initially also Director of the Division of Community Economic Development, and later as Director of the Regional Research Institute). As State Leader, Community Development Programs for Michigan State University Extension, he mentors teams working on community development, economic development, land use, leadership development, state and local government, tourism development, and urban revitalization. As Director of Graduate Studies, he coordinates the graduate recruitment and admissions process, advises current graduate students on their program of study, and serves as a standing member of the department’s graduate policy committee. He teaches graduate-level regional economics, and also has fifteen years' experience developing and delivering curricula for adult learners. He is a consistent early adopter of Internet technologies to deliver educational programs. He is founding editor of the Web Book of Regional Science (a site dedicated to analytical techniques and policies for regional development that garners over 10M hits annually). For the 2009-10 academic year, he is serving as transitional director for the North Central Regional Center for Rural Development as it moves from Iowa State University to Michigan State University. As transitional director, he will establish policies and procedures for the Center, and conduct a national search for the permanent director.
