This endowment fund was established with a gift from Professor Lester (Les) V. and Dorothy H. Manderscheid to support the Michigan State University Department of Agricultural Economics, where Les served as a Professor since 1956 and as Chairperson from 1987 to 1992.  During his career, Les made several contributions to the field of agricultural economics, in the classroom, as an academic advisor, as a researcher and as president of the American Agricultural Economics Association. 

Dorothy joined the MSU Libraries as a science librarian in 1984 and was the Branch Librarian for the Mathematics Library from 1989 to 1999.  During her time there, she led the Mathematics Library through several major projects, including conversion to an automated circulation system and a complete renovation.
