Market analysis
This sub-section will group and try to highlight those web sites which give special attention to
outlook, market analysis and economics. It is made up of selected web sites and
sections included in the Agricultural Market Information Virtual Library. Although most of the
links below give access directly, please note each link or web site has been evaluated and is
accompanied by editorial comments available in the Library which serve to orient the user on what
to expect or which describe the contents of the web site. If you know of web sites which pertain
to market analysis, marketing, price formation and pricing tools, farm decisions, risk management,
agribusiness education, timely outlook reports and so on, or other sites which complement the
choices below, please forward the web site address.
- FARM.DOC is a wonderful web site which provides risk management
information and analysis, price outlook information, evaluation of market advisory services,
current government reports, historical data, crop and revenue insurance analysis and farm financial
analysis. Produced by the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), I highly recommend
you start with the pages on Marketing, and select the Outlook and Pricing Tools sections from the
column on the left.
- For basic instructional materials on market analysis, go to Darrel L.
Good's web page here.
- For probabilistic price
forecasts, USDA balance sheets and more, see Jim Hilker's market page for livestock and
grains at Michigan State University.
- A good number of pages on risk management, hedging, futures and
options analysis and more, are available at Farmtools.com. Take advantage while registration is still free.
