Tom joined the Department of Agricultural Economics at MSU in 1992, where his work is 70% research, 30% teaching. Before 1992 he was Research Fellow at IFPRI (International Food Policy Research Institute) in Washington D.C. (1986-91), Rockefeller Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellow in Burkina Faso at ICRISAT and the University of Ouagadougou (1984-86). In the fall semester he teaches the upper-level Food Industry Management/Agribusiness Management course "International Agrifood Markets and Industries" (ABM/FIM 427), and the graduate course "Agriculture in Economic Development" (AEC 861). He supervises masters and doctoral theses. Tom is listed in “Who’s Who in Economics” and is on the board of various journals. Tom is Co-Director of the new IFPRI-MSU Joint Program on Markets in Asia (with major fieldwork for that program in India, China, Indonesia), Principal Investigator on two other large projects, on in Indonesia and Nicaragua (USAID Project in the BASIS AMA CRSP), and in the Philippines (Asian Development Bank project).
