Land Use Several research projects address land use in Michigan and beyond. One project is aimed at understanding the demand for and benefits of farmland preservation. A similar project addresses the dependence of Michigan’s agribusinesses and food industry on agricultural production in Michigan. Researchers also are interested in implications of alternative property tax policies for land use decisions. There is also an active Extension program in land use. PI: Yes

Management and Conservation of Renewable Resources This research investigates the economic issues associated with managing renewable resources (e.g., whales, fish, and elephants), considering both economically optimal management strategies as well as the incentives for harvesting when property rights are ill-defined. Management of Nuisance Species This research investigates economic strategies for controlling the introduction of nuisance species into non-native habitats, as well as approaches for controlling existing populations of nuisance species and also multi-use species (i.e., species that have attributes of both a resource and a nuisance).
