IFDC ASSIGNS ECONOMIST
IFDC has assigned Dr. Maria Wanzala, agricultural economist (MSU graduate), to the Secretariat of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) in Johannesburg, S. Africa.  The 2-year secondment is to facilitate implementation of the Abuja Declaration on Fertilizer for an African Green Revolution.  This historic document was the key outcome of the Africa Fertilizer Summit held in Abuja, Nigeria, June 2006.  The summit was the first collective step taken by African Heads of State of address Africa’s fertilizer crisis.

MARKETING LOCALLY GROWN FOOD BUS TOUR
Ingham County MSU Extension Agriculture and Horticulture program educators plan a guided tour of local Farmer markets and a discussion will be held on market management, selling a farmer's market, CSA marketing, local government perspectives, laws and regulations. August 29, 2007, 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., $25 registration fee (with lunch included).  Our tour will depart from the MSU Animal Pavilion promptly at 8 a.m., our first stop will be at the Meridian Farmers market; walk inside the township office for a meeting;

AG ECON INFORMS WORLD BANK
MSU Ag. Economics research is widely used in the forthcoming and highly influential World Bank World Development Report.  MSU Ag. Econ researchers who are cited, many of them multiple times and with several works which included Dr. Tom Reardon whose name was omitted in the July 20 Ag Econ-O-Gram.

FY-08 OHHI EXTERNAL GRANT FUNDING
The NOAA Oceans and Human Health Initiative (OHHI) is announcing its FY 2008 External Grants Program, Request for Proposals.   The full request for proposals can be found at:  http://www.eol.ucar.edu/projects/ohhi/.  Letters of Intent are encouraged but not required and are due *August 15, 2007*.  Full Proposals are due *November 15, 2007*.

WALLACE GLOBAL FUNDS
This is a Global fund that supports many domestic programs in areas such as Natural Resources, Women’s Human Rights, Justice, Media and Leadership and Civic Engagement.  Grant proposals are processed and reviewed on a continual basis. The average grant size is $50,000, with actual grant awards ranging from $2,000 to $400,000. The Fund makes both one-year and multi-year grants. The review process typically takes between one and three months. In addition to grantmaking, WGF staff often provide potential network contacts, advice, and other assistance to applicants.  http://www.wgf.org/index.html

USAID (United States Agency for International Development) is currently seeking volunteers for the USAID - Florida A&M University (FAMU) South Africa Farmer to Farmer Program.  FAMU recruits average Americans, men and women, farmers and agribusiness professionals for short-term assignments. Understanding agriculture and business is what their hosts are really need. Translators are provided.
Currently a 21-day assignments are available anytime during the month of August & September 2007 in South Africa in the area of Farm Planning and Agricultural Management. The volunteer will teach South African farmers:  The concept of a “business year;” basics of farm management; Basic record keeping; and Market development. All expenses associated with the training are provided by the FTF program (economy airfare, meals, accommodation, and training materials).
