CANDIDATE SEMINAR

A fifth candidate for the position of Associate Dean and Director, Office of Organization and Professional Development for Diversity and Pluralism will give an on-campus seminar to discuss her background, experience and vision for the future.

APPOINTMENTS ACCEPTED

Dr. Mark Skidmore has accepted an appointment as Betty and David Morris Chair in State and Local Finance and Policy.  He will start in August.

Dr. Songquin Jin has accepted an appointment as Assistant Professor, International Development.  He will start in August.

AWARDS

Rui M.S. Benfica, recent doctoral graduate in agricultural economics, is this year's recipient of the Gill-Chin Lim Award for Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation in Global Studies.  Bonfica’s dissertation has already had policy effects in Mozambique, where he currently works for the World Bank.

Eric Burham Bailey, a graduate student in the Department of Agricultural Economics, has won the Homer Higbee International Education award.  He is the founder and was first president of the Caribbean Students Association and currently serves as the president of MSU's International Students Association.

PURDUE AWARDS FERRIS

Congratulations to Jake Ferris for receiving the Purdue University Certificate of Distinction. In his 40 years at MSU, Ferris, professor emeritus of agricultural economics, channeled his creative and intellectual energy into research and education programs that enhanced the knowledge and decision-making abilities of his students, Extension educators, farmers and agribusiness professionals.  Ferris grew up on a hog and corn farm near Milton, Ind.  He received his Ph.D. in agricultural economics at MSU in 1960 after earning a B.S. from Purdue and an M.S. from Cornell University.

STAFF NEWS

Kathy Waltz, Telfarm Supervisor, was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society at Eastern Michigan University on March 23, 2007.  BGS is an International Honor Society for academic achievement in the study of business.  Kathy is currently working on a Master of Science degree in HR and Organizational Development at EMU.
