BROWN BAG SEMINAR

Nov 28 –Wenbin XU, Wise Xiamen University, China, a visiting scholar of Dept. of Ag. Econ., presents:  "Information, Institutions & Institutional Change."  The paper is to give some informational considerations and then model institution and institutional change. I propose that information and institution are two sides of a same coin. The functions of institution and the motivation of institutional changes are then re-examined on this foundation.  By introducing monetary model (Williamson and Wright,1994) and birth-and-death process (Nicolis and Prigogine,1977) I then model institution and institutional change."  The seminar is in Room 75 Ag Hall at 12 noon to 1:00 pm.--- Vandana Yadav

GRANT PROPOSAL WORKSHOP

My name is Dr. Karl Hamner.  I wanted to let you know about a grant proposal workshop I will be bringing to Michigan. I thought it would be of interest to you and your colleagues in Higher Education.

The 3-day workshop, Practical Grant Writing and Evaluation, is suitable for people with all levels of proposal writing experience.  After taking the workshop herself, Dr. Lisa Eichelberger, Dean of Nursing, Clayton State University, Georgia, wrote "I think every University faculty member should attend this workshop early in his or her career."  The workshop is hands-on, and gives participants the tools and techniques to put together a clear, concise, and compelling case why you should receive funding to support your program or meet your mission.  Unlike most grant writing workshops, Dr. Karl Hamner will cover how to locate and contact foundations as well as public funders, and teach participants how to put together a strong plan to evaluate and demonstrate results. Workshops are currently scheduled for East Lansing, MI, Dec. 4-6, 2006 (Kellogg Center).  Registration is from 8:00 – 8:50 am on Monday, Dec. 4.  The workshop runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm each day.

To learn more about, read what past participants have to say about the workshop, and to register, please go to www.kmhconsulting.com/workshops.html. Also, feel free to contact Dr. Hamner:  President, KMH Consulting,
