BROWN BAG SEMINAR

Sept. 12 –   “Increasing the Effectiveness of Responses to Food Insecurity and Famine:  Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET).

In Room 75 Agriculture Hall at noon.  Bring your lunch.

Presenter:  Patricia Bonnard, Trade and Markets Advisor, Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) and MSU Faculty with the Institute of International Agriculture.

Topic: FEWS NET is a USAID funded activity that works through multi-agency collaborative networks.  FEWS NET analyzes and projects food security conditions - they cover availability, access and utilization, not just availability.

The presentation will include overview of FEWS NET; examples of how well-tailored market analysis has helped to improve regular and ad hoc food security assessments, analyses, reporting and ultimately humanitarian responses; and a discussion of opportunities for current MSU graduate students.

Dr. Bonnard is a professor with MSU and has some wonderful insights about applying the skills we are learning here to the projects that we hope to contribute to when we are done.
