“Intergovernmental Cooperation and Consolidation in Michigan:  Lessons from Home and Abroad,” 1st Annual Lynn R. Harvey Local Government Affairs Seminar Series:  Wednesday  May 17th, 2006, 1 to 4 p.m., Room 103, Kellogg Center, East Lansing, MI.
 
1-2:15  " Do Economies of Scale Exist in Local Government Services: A Fact Finding Tour" presentation by State and Local Government Program and Land Policy program.
 
2:30- 4 "Lessons from Municipal Consolidation in Ontario, Canada," Dr. Harry Kitchen, Professor of Economics, University of Trent, Peterborough, ON.  Dr. Harry Kitchen will be presenting as the first speaker in the Lynn R. Harvey Local Government Affairs Seminar Series.  Dr. Kitchen has served as a Commissioner & Chair for the Municipal Restructuring of Victoria County, Ontario in 1999-2000, served as Chair of the Niagara Region Review Commission and Halton Regional Review Committee and has conducted extensive research on the issues of local government affairs and municipal consolidation.
 
The lecture is free and open to all.

The Department extends condolences to Linda Beck and her mother on the death of Linda's father who passed away Tuesday, April 11.

18th ANNUAL SPRING SHOW & PLANT SALE
The MSU Horticulture Club is hosting its 18th Annual Spring Show and Plant Sale April 22 & 23!  The funds raised from the Spring Show allow the Hort Club students to attend many conferences, career fairs, and competitions around the country.  A portion of the proceeds are also placed in an endowment so the club can award two scholarships each year to outstanding club members.  It will be at the MSU Plant and Soil Sciences Building Conservatory, April 22, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. & April 23, 10 a.m. 4 p.m.

AG EXPO 2006
The Land Policy Institute is joining forces with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) to expand our Ag Expo presence.  This years Ag Expo will be held on MSUs campus from July 18-20, 2006.  The CANR Tent will feature groups from across the College, including LPI, Citizen Planner, and the MSU Diary Store, as well as Michigan 4-H, Entomology, Integrative Pest Management and many others.  The theme, CANR: Can you Believe It? in the style of Ripley’s Believe it or Not, will entice Expo goers to the tent to learn more about things that they could never have imagined.  There will be speakers on three stages, food preparation demonstrations, music, magic and many other exciting, educational, and fun opportunities for the family in the CANR Tent.  Anyone interest in learning more about or participating in this exciting event may contact Catharine Hansford at Hansford@landpolicy.msu.edu.

(BEA) is seeking for a Ph.D. level economist position in 2006.  BEA’s mission is to strengthen our understanding of the U.S. economy by improving GDP and other national, regional, industry, and international accounts data.  The candidate will conduct independent research to BEA's mission & will publish that research in professional journals & the Survey of Current Business as well as present the work at conferences. FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF KANSAS CITY, Center for the Study of Rural America has paid internship opportunities in the summer of 2006 for currently enrolled students.  The Center represents a visible focal point for rural and regional research. UNIVERSITEIT VAN AMSTERDAM,  School of Economics (ASE), seeks PhD Positions in Economics and Econometrics (Job Reference Code 06-5007).  The Universiteit van Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE) is  among the top economics research institutes in Europe. The ASE is currently seeking candidates for six PhD positions to start in September 2006.
