THOM JAYNE CD RELEASE!
Saturday Jan. 7 at 8 p.m.  THOM JAYNE AND THE NOMADS - a CD release!  They have been at the Creole twice before.  This talented group has come up with their own rich and exotic brand of flamenco, Afro-beat, Latin jazz, and Celtic music.  Their unique fusion of didgeridoos, trumpets, guitars, Native American flutes and African percussion comes together on "Road Trip," their debut CD premiering at Creole Gallery on Saturday.
Guitarist Jayne travels extensively in Africa due to his job as a professor in agricultural economics at Michigan State University. He's picked up the latest African sounds and has collaborated with Zambian pop star, Ballard Zulu.  His musical career started in the 1970s, when he performed with Pariah on the East Coast. He eventually sold everything, joined the Peace Corps and moved to the jungles of Ghana in West Africa at 24. Several of the compositions on his first CD, "The Forgotten Conquest," were conceived during his two-year stay in a small village there.
Jayne's songwriting abilities were confirmed when "The Forgotten Conquest," received the prestigious John Lennon Songwriters Contest award in the world music category.
His latest band has been evolving for the past few years, but MSU music professor Rich Illman and guitarist/flutist David Meeder have been constants.
The Nomads feature Jayne (guitar and didgeridoo), Rich Illman (trumpet), Jon Weber (percussion), David Meeder (guitar, flutes, and percussion),  Ryan Bliton (bass), Rebeca Garcia (violin), and Danny Cox (drums).
Tickets: $14 & $10 for students, available by check or cash at Elderly Instruments (1100 N. Washington in Lansing), Archives Book Shop (517 W. Grand River in East Lansing), or by credit card by calling 517-487-9549  and going on-line at www.creolegallery.com. (A $2 per ticket charge for credit card orders).
