WINDOW CLEANING
Beginning Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, Great Lakes Window Cleaning will be in the building washing the inside windows on the upper level floors. Towards the middle to end of the week they will begin the lower level floors. This includes both the east wing and main portion of Ag Hall. Cleaning is planned to begin around 8 am 4 pm. Please be sure to remove everything off the window sill.

SEMINAR
As part of the U.N. Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, MSU will be hosting L. Hunter Lovins speaking on "Infusing Natural Capitalism into Education" on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 pm in 158 Natural Resources Building. Lovins is the president and founder of Natural Capitalism, Inc. In 1982, she co-founded the Rocky Mountain Institute with Amory Lovins and served as the CEO until 2002. She has coauthored several books, including the ground-breaking Natural Capitalism, which she wrote with Amory Lovins and Paul Hawkin. That book has been translated into over a dozen languages. This event is free and open to the public.

GOVERNORS TASK FORCE
The State & Local Government Program (Agricultural Economics & Extension) has taken on the role of staff for the Governors Task Force on Local Government Services and Fiscal Stability. The task force was created in April 2005 under Executive Order 2005-9. The major impetus behind the task force is to examine every aspect of Michigan's local public finance system and propose changes to the Governor and legislature. The Task Force is made up of the State Treasurer, State Budget Director, 4 townships reps., 4 city reps. and 4 county reps. The staff's role is to handle logistics, research and report writing for the task force. We anticipate both applied research and extension outlets for the work conducted by the task force. The task force convenes Sept 19 and will last until February with a final report due to the Governor.
Joe Martin, Lena Stevens and Leslie Barner from Agricultural Economics will all be serving as staff members for the task force. Eric Scorsone is serving as Chief of Staff and Lynn Harvey as Senior Advisor. Deborah Kimble, former City Manager of Saginaw and a Ph.D. candidate at Cleveland State is also serving as a Research associate.

OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY are seeking for three Agricultural Economists:
Livestock Economist, Assistant Professor, 75% Research/25% Extension. This position is an 11-month, tenure track. The faculty member will be expected to develop a nationally recognized research program in livestock production & marketing systems and an extension program which positively impacts Oklahoma’s livestock industry. Topics may focus on interaction of livestock-forage production; value-added management-marketing programs; cost-benefits of animal identification-health-information systems; managing production-marketing risk, and cost-benefits of genetic marker and related technology, among others. Required: A Ph.D. degree in ag. econ. or economics with an orientation toward microeconomics of livestock production & management; be well trained in economic theory and quantitative techniques; effective communication skills, both written and oral; previous research or extension experience in livestock production or marketing is desirable.
Crop Economist, Assistant Professor, 75%/Research/ 25% Teaching expected to work with multidisciplinary teams to develop a nationally recognized research and teaching program in crop and forage production systems. Specific responsibilities include teaching two courses per year, advise undergraduate students; contribute to the Second Century Initiative, Plant Enterprises Team; participate in multi-institutional, multi-regional or national research initiatives targeting U.S. and Oklahoma crops; and etc. Required: a Ph.D. degree in ag. econ. or economics with emphasis on production or management; well trained in economic theory & quantitative; communication skills, both written and oral.
Area Agricultural Economics Specialist, SW district, MS, provides timely, quality educational materials and tools needed by farmers, ranchers, and agribusiness owners to make informed decisions in a risky business environment;. works with other disciplinary specialists such as livestock and agronomy specialists to offer integrated, unbiased programs; uses a variety of delivery methods to implement programs including direct teaching, media, etc; analyzes cattle/crop market dynamics relative to current cash, futures, and options markets and how they affect short-term and long-term marketing strategies and risk management. Required: a Master’s degree in Ag. Econ. or closely related field; ability to effectively listen, communicate; demonstrates willingness and ability to effectively manage time and resources; possesses writing, communication, and organization skills; demonstrates competency and effective use of computing & computer-based communications technology.

Position 1: Macroeconomics - Advanced assistant professors or higher rank are particularly encouraged. The successful applicant may concentrate on growth, monetary, or international macroeconomics. A secondary field in industrial organization or finance is a plus.
Position 2: Game Theory and Conflict Studies - Mature candidates are sought with a proven research record in the study of conflict and the application of game theory and asymmetric information. Fields include game theory, applied microeconomics, public economics and environmental economics.
Position 3: Behavioral/Experimental Economics Candidates should have demonstrated the ability to use behavioral and experimental methods to address important economic and policy problems.
