FACULTY MEETINGS
No faculty meetings are scheduled at this time.

UNIVERSITY HOLIDAY
This is a reminder that the University is closed for business and classes Monday, Sept. 5, to observe Labor Day, a national holiday.  The University will re-open for business and classes Tuesday, Sept. 6.

REMINDER: Power Plant Upgrade
Over Labor Day Weekend, MSU is constructing an addition to the Power Plant that will both steam & electricity to campus. One boiler & one electrical generator will be  taken out of service.  The remaining capacity is more than enough to handle a holiday weekend, even with a home football game, but to assure no interruptions should a piece of equipment malfunction, we are asking the campus community for the following assistance:

*When you leave for the holiday weekend, please turn off all non-essential electricity consuming equipment, particularly computers and lights.

* Do not start any experiments or other electricity consuming activity that can be postponed until Tuesday, Sept. 6.

The cut-in will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, and will be completed early Monday morning allowing the power plant to be ready for the start of classes Tuesday morning, Sept. 6.

For questions or concerns, call Bob Ellerhorst, Director at 5-3314, 8 am - 5 pm, M-F, or email rlellerh@pplant.msu.edu.

FAREWELL
Dear Faculty, staff and students:  My time at MSU in general and Ag Econ Dept. in particular, has finally come an end. Since the time I joined the department, many winters have come and gone by. Each one came with new promise for me and, the last one crowned it all. I earned my Ph.D. from this prestigious department and got two job offers. I can't ask for more.

I have enjoyed every day of my life in the department. So much so that if I were to do a Ph.D. all over again, I will still choose MSU Ag. Econ Dept. Most of the faculty and staff were very good to me and supportive. Thank you all for your kindness and, I hope that you will continue to make students feel the way I do now, or even better.

As for fellow students, I am a living testimony of staying the course. The challenges are many and varied but the rewards are sweet. I have greatly enjoyed the comradeship that reigns supreme in our student community. There is no other student body on campus like the GSO. I thank you all and wish you the very best in your studies.

I begin my new Job Aug. 29 as a full time Faculty member in Davenport University, Grand Rapids. My new contact information is given below.
Thank you. –Gerald Nyambane, Davenport University, 1691 Kraft Avenue, S.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49512;

AG HALL COPY CENTER UPGRADES
Printing Services is in the process of planning some new changes to the Ag Hall copy. The changes are focused on:
Quality--new digital equipment with the latest digital printing technology capable of producing the highest quality.
Options--new binding/finishing equipment with more options, including saddle-stitching (stapling on the spine of a booklet such as a newsletter), spiral binding, laminating, and shrink wrapping.
Convenience--a new online storefront, called PrintConnect, will provide you with a web-based order entry system right from your desktop.

In addition to equipment & technology upgrades, the physical storefront in Ag Hall will create a more professional, user-friendly environment.  Improvements will be throughout the coming semester, and equipment upgrades are scheduled to take place toward the end of the semester. Please pardon our dust as these changes take place.  Please dont hesitate to write to Carmen Crist with your feedback, or stop by the copy center and visit Debi Tessman to learn more about the planned improvements.--Carmen E. Crist, Director of Printing Services, University Relations
