ANOTHER SPARTAN ARRIVAL
Congratulations to Mary Schultz & Eric Petrie to the new arrival of a daughter, Gwen Schulz Petrie, arriving Saturday afternoon (July 16). She weighed 8 lbs. 4 oz. and is 21 inches long. She reportedly has lots of brown hair. Baby, mother, father, and big sis are doing well after arriving home on Monday evening (July 18).

Please join me in welcoming Nicholas (Nick) Bourland to the Land Policy Program. Nick has accepted the position of Executive Secretary to the Hannah Professor and the Land Policy Program. Nick began his appointment on July 5, 2005. He replaces LuAnn Gloden, who ably served in this position until March of this year. Nick was selected for this position following an exhaustive search. We are excited about his excellent skills, background and experience at MSU. KANDEH YUMKELLA UPDATE
We have received notice that Kandeh Yumkella, a former faculty member in our Department, was nominated as the next UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) Director-General for 2006-2009. According to UNIDO's procedures for electing its Director-General, Mr. Yumkella is recommended by the IDB for appointment by the UNIDO General Conference. Econ., Office of Local Government, seeks a Non-tenure track Extension Associate-Watershed Economist; to provide economic analyses of land use management alternatives in watersheds to support local community decision making in the development of Watershed Restoration & Protection Strategies (WRAPS) in Kansas; will work on a multi-disciplinary team. Required: a Master's Degree with major coursework & training related to farm management analysis techniques, ag. economics, and/or natural resource economics; knowledge of agricultural production practices and previous farm management experience; and excellent computer and quantitative analysis skills, including budgeting, net present value feasibility analysis, linear programming and basic econometrics.
