AG HALL DROP BOX
As a result of a survey conducted by the Staff Advisory Committee to the Dean, a drop box has been installed outside Agriculture Hall. The drop box (a green mailbox) is intended for written communications to units housed in Ag Hall. It is located outside the entrance to the Annex at the curb on the southeast corner of the building. The drop box is a convenient way to leave
documents and forms before/after regular working hours or when parking or weather make it inconvenient to leave a vehicle.

The drop box will be emptied twice daily on work days-at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. A log will be maintained regarding its use. The drop box will be available for use July 5.
We hope that you will find this added convenience a benefit in communicating with units within Ag Hall. Your comments are welcome.Jeff Armstrong, Dean

NOTES FROM A RETIREE
A couple of years ago, my textbook, Agricultural Prices and Commodity Market Analysis, published by McGraw-Hill in 1997, went out of print. Following a favorable review in the May 2004 edition of the AJAE, I decided to prepare a new edition with the MSU Press as the publisher.  The book is now available and has a list price $64.

I have been maintaining an econometric model of U.S. agriculture (AGMOD), designed to generate year by year projections in a 10 year time frame.  I have finally converted it from the old DOS MicroTsp to Quantitative Micro Softwares windows version called EViews, in this case EViews5.  This will open up opportunities to expand AGMOD very substantially and also explore stochastic solutions. I would welcome input from faculty members and graduate students with ideas on future applications.

At the moment, I am analyzing the U.S. House and Senate versions of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 in terms of provisions for increasing ethanol and biodiesel production.  Satish Joshi and I have been researching these emerging provisions for renewable fuels over the past couple of years.  -- Jake Ferris
