FOUNDER'S DAY INVITATION
        
Feb. 11 (Fri) - Michigan State University's Awards Convocation will take place at 2 pm in the Great Hall of the Wharton Center for Performing Arts.  As part of the convocation, Dr. Lou Anna Kimsey Simon will be inaugurated as twentieth president of MSU.  Join other members of the MSU family in celebration of academic excellence and Dr. Simon's inauguration.

AG HALL UTILITY SHUTDOWN
Physical Plant Maintenance Services will shutdown the domestic hot & cold water at Ag. GRAD. STUDENT TRAVEL FUNDS
The Environmental Science & Policy Program (ESPP) will provide support for graduate student travel to professional meetings.  Students must be presenting papers or posters focusing on environmental science & policy.  Support of up to $750 for domestic meetings and up to $1,000 for meetings outside the U.S. will be available.  To apply, submit:  An abstract of the paper or poster; A short description of the nature of the meeting and of the context in which the paper will be presented (e.g., title of paper session or poster session); A short budget indicating in general terms the costs of travel, registration and lodging for the meeting; A short note from the students dissertation advisor indicating her or his support for the application.
      Applications will be reviewed starting on Feb 1, 2005, and continue until the allocated funds are depleted.  Materials should be forwarded to Ken Beer (beerk@msu.edu).  Recipients will be contacted and asked to provide personal information (PID, etc.) to assist in filling out University paperwork prior to the awarding of the funds.  Priority will be given to current ESPP fellowship holders; Students enrolled in the ESPP doctoral specialization; Students who have enrolled in ESP 801 or are currently enrolled in ESP 802; Presentations of a clearly interdisciplinary nature; Presentations at interdisciplinary meetings.

GRANTS FOR FIELD RESEARCH IN AFRICA
      Cornell and Clark Atlanta Universities invite research proposals from U.S. based Ph.D. students & faculty members in econ., ag. econ., and other closely related fields to be carried out in selected African countries.  The grant is supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development under Strategies and Analysis for Growth and Access (SAGA) project.
      The grant would cover costs of travel, research related expenses (e.g., data collection)  and a stipend to cover daily lodging & food ($5,000 - $20,000).  The recipients of the grant will be based in one of the member countries of the Secretariat for Institutional Support for Economic Research in Africa (SISERA) during the field research period.  Deadline:  April 19, 2005 (must be postmarked).  Mailing Address:
