MSU SYMPOSIUM
U.S.-Canada Forest Products Trade in Eastern North AmericaA Bilateral Technical Symposium.  The bilateral trade of forest products (wood, pulp, paper, and furniture) between the U.S. and Canada topped US$36 billion in 2000, with three-quarters entering from Canada into the U.S. While the flows of other products have been relatively free, there have been contentious disagreements over the softwood lumber trade, which accounts for about $7 billion/yr. A symposium will be held during March 6-8, 2005, in East Lansing, MI, to examine the market relationships and industry trends, impacts of past, current, and future U.S. trade restrictions, and views of and approaches to stumpage pricing in the two countries. The symposium is jointly sponsored by the MSU, the Canadian Embassy and the USDA Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory. It will focus on exchanging research results and discussing research needs and will feature a combination of invited speeches, panel discussions, and refereed presentations. For more details, visit our symposium web site at www.for.msu.edu/trade or contact program committee chair  Dr. Runsheng Yin at yinr@msu.edu or 517.432.3352.--Larry Leefers
