MAES ACTING DIRECTOR
Dr. John C. Baker, associate dean for research and graduate studies for the College of Veterinary Medicine, has been selected acting director of the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station, effective Nov. 1, 2004.  He will replace Dr. J. Ian Gray, who began his appointment as MSU Vice President for Research & Graduate Studies Sept. 1.  Dr. Gray served the MAES since 1987, becoming director in 1996. He has guided the MAES through difficult financial times and has overseen the expansion of its mission to enhance agriculture, natural resources, environmental stewardship, food & health, a secure food and fiber system, and family & community vitality in Michigan. We are grateful for the firm groundwork Dr. Gray has laid for the future of the Experiment Station.

MSU will conduct a national search for a permanent director of the MAES. I will keep you appraised as the process progresses.
In the meantime, Acting Director Baker will provide the continuity and leadership necessary to maintain and expand the excellent work of Director Gray and his team.
  J. Armstrong
