Land Policy Program grants reward innovative research and effective outreach proposals that support the development & implementation of smart growth across the state. A panel selected 46 projects for funding from 80 proposals in eight categories: Rapid Response, Outreach and Capacity Building, Program Planning, Program Implementation, Research & Outreach Equipment, Graduate Research Scholars, Undergraduate Research Scholars, and Special Projects. Submission deadlines for 2005-06 grants will be set in Fall 2004.
Grants ranged from $2,000 to $150,000 for one- to three-year projects in 2004-05 that include measuring the success of brownfield redevelopment programs; creating and measuring success in cool cities; assessing the effectiveness of state property tax abatements; training entrepreneurs to support reopening the Chene Ferry Community Market in Detroit; assessing demographic trends and infrastructure costs on urban sprawl; and modeling the effects of aspen forest management practices on wildlife and habitat. MSU'S SESQUICENTENNIAL
Michigan State University's Sesquicentennial is a special time in our university's history. It is a time of both reflection and renewal. As we prepare to celebrate the 150th anniversary of our founding, we invite all members of MSU's international, national, state, and local communities to take part in the celebration. Throughout 2005 there will be special events commemorating our 150th anniversary. Academic convocations, Founders' Day events, music and culture, athletic events, Homecoming, and a Sesquicentennial parade are among some of the types of events that will be offered in 2005. We believe that there is truly something for everyone in this special celebratory year. I encourage you to be a part of this ongoing celebration of Michigan State University's history and future of advancing knowledge and transforming lives.
